Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

Stretching across New York Harbor like a steel ribbon, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge connects Staten Island and Brooklyn with elegance and muscle. When it opened in 1964, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world, a title it held until 1981. Named after Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, it’s not just a bridge, it’s a gateway to the city, a stage for the start of the NYC Marathon, and a favorite for sunset selfies.

Fun fact: The bridge is so long; engineers had to account for the Earth’s curvature when designing it!
